Sassetta is the gateway to the local regional park on the edge of the Val Cornia. The area is popular with cyclists thanks to clean air, quiet roads, and hill breezes that moderate the summer’s heat.
This Luxury Villa is set in an estate of almost 100 hectares which stretches all along the hills and is one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Maremma coastline.The villa itself is set in 8 acres of beautiful and private gardens, an ideal setting for family reunions and small weddings.
The villa has been totally restored using building materials of a very high standard; allowing it to retain the original façade of a Farm House. There is an outdoors "loggia" (covered or walled Terrace)outside the kitchen for dining in warm weather, and above it a sun terrace reached by external stairs, which can also be used for dining.
On the ground floor there is a very large Lounge Area with TV, CD,DVD and, at one end, a large Dining Table. There is a small downstairs washroom off the Lounge. The Kitchen is equipped to a highly professional standard with a central stainless steel island, that easily accommodate eights persons for cooking lessons and pasta making.
Accommodations:
The main villa offers 7 bedrooms and below it two guest houses with supplementary accommodation of 2 extra rooms. All bedrooms are en suite.Upstairs there are 5 bedrooms. Four bedrooms are accessed from a flight of old stone stairs. Automatic movement sensors switch on the lights as you walk down the hallway – a nice feature – shut off on leaving rooms.
The bedrooms are elegant and a private terrace furnished with antique furniture is comfortable and relaxing. From the window you can enjoy panoramic views as well as smell the local perfume. All the rooms are slightly different from each other and decorated in a different color. All the rooms are equipped with centralized Heating, Air Conditioning and Internet Service.
There are also 2 Bedrooms at Ground Floor Level and just below the main villa building are 2 adjoining Bedrooms with Independent Access which are used as independent apartments with a Kitchenette.
All the Bedrooms have en suite Baths and external walls/windows providing natural lighting and ventilation. The Bathrooms all have large mirrors.
The bedrooms are all double bedded, apart from one bedroom that has 2 twin beds, which can be zipped together forming a double. The Mattresses are high quality and Anti-Allergenic. Choices of hard or soft pillows are provided in each room. The owner’s mother has a haberdashery and has supplied all the fabrics and towels for the villa.
The bedrooms are decorated in pastels one yellow, one pink and a green and nicely decorated with furnishings typical of Tuscany’s “arte povera”. All have a large wardrobe for hanging clothes, mirrors and most rooms also have a chest of draws. Some have a writing table and chair and points for laptops are provided in each room or and internet access for those bringing a computer.
Good to Know:
• Trekking by foot, on horse or mountain biking – an extensive trail of paths is easily accessible from the villa through the extensive natural park in which the villa is located. The area is also popular with cyclists.
• Super Tuscan wines – just over 6km away are some of Italy’s most famous wine makers. When visiting Bolgheri, a fascinating tour can be arranged to find out more about Sassicaia and the other Super Tuscan wines made here. The villa actually lies on the wine route between Bolgheri and the Val di Cornia.
• The Island of Elba – just over 30 minutes away regular ferries leave the port of Piombino for the lovely island of Elba, an easy day trip from the villa. a private boat or a yacht if you’re a keen sailor.
• Gambero Rosso – one of Italy’s best restaurants is located close by in the seaside resort of San Vicenzo. But you will find other excellent restaurants serving both sea food and traditional Tuscan meat dishes. Lovers of fine food and wines will be delighted with the easy access to taste the typical regional Italian cuisine
• Beaches – the Tuscan coastline below Sassetta boasts sandy beaches, such as that at Baratta which sits in its own protected cove.
• Cultural attractions – close by it is possible to visit the Etruscan remains below Alta Populonia and several of the pretty hill top towns such as Suvereto. Within an hour you can reach Volterra and San Gimignano. Day trips can also be made to Siena, Pisa and of course Florence.
